In 1978, we went to Tonga where Les taught Geography at the church owned
Liahona High School. There were several non-member students from the
Gilbert Islands who came there to finish high school. Recognizing many
of the problems these students faced in adjusting to a
new culture, a new religion,
learning a new language, and a different school environment, we invited
these Gilbertese students into our home to teach, fellowship and
feed them. We have remained in contact with these students throughout
the years and after 34 years, we finally traveled to the Gilbert Island
in February for a joyous reunion with these dear former students.
Attached is the photo of many of them, (most in their 50's) some of
their children and Senior missionaries. We were treated like royalty
and had a wonderful time. The church has grown in the Gilbert Island
from these 24 original convert students to over 12,000 members, 2 Stakes
and 8 beautiful chapels. They have been the pioneers of the church on
their Island.
A side note: It was while we were in Tonga that we met Mata who was
also a student there. She came back to the states and lived with us and
graduated from Mt. View High School.

Good-bye to the Howards
We have enjoyed having Andi Howard and her family in our ward. we wish them well in their new home just a few blocks away. we will miss them.
April 17 Activity at Adele's house
At our activity on April 17, we had all the things sisters love to do together--food, conversation, fun games, and crafts.
Sandi Greene was overheard saying about the jewelry she was making: "I'm good, but I'll be better when I find all the green ones."
We played a get-to-know-you game where each sister or Laurel was assigned a letter of the alphabet and told about important parts of her life starting with that letter. Here are a few highlights: Vira Bahr's A's expanded to include active and appendicitis. Holly Ferguson's D's creatively said that her carpet is the color of dirt. Maren Payne had H and said she likes halibut because it is a fish and fish swim and she likes to swim. Irma Lopez had L and likes libraries and limes. Sara Campbell had R and makes amazing raspberry freezer jam and rappels.
We were happy to see Claudia Laycock, who made the effort to come for a while. She loves the quilt and was able to take a 10 minute walk. She is slowly getting her strength back after her surgery.

Bishopric Message March/April 2012
Bishopric Message
By Randy Hickman
Brothers and Sisters, we, as
your Bishopric, would like to thank all those who attended
the temple February 9-12 prior to Stake Conference. Stake Conference was a great success and all the temple attendance added to the spirit of the meetings. I would remind everyone that our Ward’s Goal of the Month for February is to: “Ensure you have a current temple recommend; renew if needed, start the process to get one if needed; go to the temple if you already have one – as often as you can.” So if you weren’t able to make it to the Temple before Stake Conference it’s not too late to get started on making regular and often temple attendance a habit in your life. By doing so you will be the recipient of the Lord’s choicest blessings.
If you don’t currently have a temple recommend, what are you waiting for? Go see the Bishop today! He’d love to help you get the process started in obtaining your own temple recommend. There is almost nothing in your life that, once resolved, will keep you from the temple, except YOU!
Now let’s look at our physical or temporal preparation. By way of reminder, our Ward’s Goal of the Month for March is: “Create, review or update your household emergency response plan.” I know that this is a topic that most of us would rather not think about or put off until later but remember: “if we are prepared we shall not fear.” With the events of late in Haiti and other parts around the world and experts telling us that a major seismic event could and will happen in the Wasatch front we need to Be Prepared. I would encourage all of us to take this goal seriously, consider or reassess how prepared or unprepared we are as individual & families and take positive steps to correct these deficiencies we find.
May the Lord bless you in your efforts to Become Prepared. Seek His assistance and guidance in all you do. I pray that we all as individuals, families and a Ward will prepare and be able to respond positively to any
emergency we are asked to face.
