Lesson for March 17, 2013--Becoming Perfect

Sister Barbara Alldredge gave the Lesson on Chapter 6 Becoming Perfect before the Lord: A Little Better Day by Day. president Snow told of his first time giving his testimony, saying but I made up my mind, solidly and firmly, that whenever I was called upon to perform a duty of this nature or of any other, I would do it no matter what might be the result. That is a part of the foundation of my success as an Elder in Israel." We discussed the story of Abraham who was told to be perfect before the Lord. as Nepgi said, the Lord provides way a for us to become perfect. President Snow also said, We ought to feel in our hearts that God is our Father, and that while we make mistakes and are weak yet if we live as nearly perfect as we can all will be well with us. sister Byrne said if we have faith the Lord can change us. Another sister mentioned that the trials we have give us opportunities to make choices. Paige Gibson said the Lord gives us families so we can be in situations where we can work on perfection. Sister Roundy said that the Atonement helps us repent and trust in the Lord so we can be strengthened to reach a higher level. Sister Alldredge discussed that Abraham had to leave his country and family. Sometimes we are called upon to do hard things and we should strive to be as perfect as we could be in the sphere in which we are acting. Sister Lopez said we have to have willingness to do whatever God wants us to. The Lord wants us to become better. Sister Byrne said we are judged by the level we are on at the time. President Snow said, The Lord designs to bring us up into the celestial kingdom. He has made known through direct revelation that we are His offspring, begotten in the eternal worlds, that we have come to this earth for the special purpose of preparing ourselves to receive a fulness of our Father's glory when we shall return into His presence. Therefore, we must seek the ability to keep this law to sanctify our motives, desires, feelings and affections that they may be pure and holy and our will in all things be subservient to the will of God, and have no will of our own except to do the will of our Father. Such a man in his sphere is perfect, and commands the blessing of God in all that he does and wherever he goes. sister Alldredge asked what we can do the characteristics we should do. We can't do it alone and we don't have to. sister Alldredge said we can change our desires. Sister Card said we can do good stuff and it changes our desires. Sister Bahr said to focus on what we can do so we feel success and wants to succeed more and we should not compare ourselves to others, but what God tells us to do. Amy Young said Elder Oaks said that what we do becomes what we desire and what we desire is what we become. Sister Cantrell said there is a difference between being a perfectionist and being perfect, so we should fill ourselves with good things. Sister Alldredge said we can be perfect in one thing. another Sister said we can't do it alone but we can do it with the Lord and we can do anything. Sister Campbell said Joseph Fielding Smith said we will have the same thoughts and desires when we pass through the veil, so we will be the same people. She said she hopes she will be judged on her good intentions. Sister Bahr said we should never give up because Satan wants us to give up.
